about sAm martin
Sam Martin is an Omaha, Nebraska–based musician and songwriter best known as the frontman and co-founder of the indie rock band Capgun Coup. Emerging from Omaha’s vibrant DIY scene in the mid-2000s, Martin helped shape the band’s raw, high-energy sound, blending garage rock grit with playful, off-kilter songwriting and sharp lyrical wit. Capgun Coup built a devoted following through frenetic live performances and releases like Brought to You by Nebraskafish and Maudlin, records that captured their scrappy spirit and inventive approach to indie rock. In addition to his work with the band, Martin has explored solo material that highlights a more introspective and eclectic side, incorporating lo-fi textures and melodic experimentation. Known for his distinctive voice and restless creativity, Martin remains a defining figure in a particular era of Omaha’s independent music community- more recently expanding into film scoring, composing original music for the films Sick Birds Die Easy and Dosing Davos.

Creation of The Soundtrack

For the Sick Bird’s score, Sam Martin took on the challenge of composing and assembling the soundtrack that would both underscore and enhance the strange, unpredictable tone of the story. This project marked his first foray into film scoring, creating a body of music that ranges from ambient textures to experimental instrumental pieces and occasional songs drawn from his broader creative work.
Martin worked closely with Fackler through the post-production process: Martin provided a substantial archive of music he had recorded over a period of time. Fackler selected elements from this collection that would best accompany the film’s shifting moods, and Martin then tracked and refined the score to fit the evolving edit. The resulting Sick Birds Die Easy official soundtrack features over 30 tracks.
